Promotional Activities

To celebrate the launch, Poundland is placing Blue Plaques outside 20 of its top-performing lunchtime stores, including locations in Deal, Kent, Princes Street, Edinburgh, and High Road, Wembley. However, the meal deal will be available at hundreds of Poundland stores across the UK.

Official Statements

Kyle Storey, Poundland's head of chilled and frozen foods, said: "Our mission at Poundland has always been to provide our customers with the best possible value, without compromising on taste or quality. With our new meal deal, we're offering an unbeatable price and ensuring that everyone can enjoy a delicious and satisfying meal without needing a plastic loyalty card."

Rising Meal Deal Prices

This launch comes amid rising meal deal prices across the UK. Pre-pandemic, commuters might have secured a meal deal for a couple of pounds, but costs have since increased significantly. Here's how Poundland's new offering compares:

Tesco: £3.40 for Clubcard holders, £3.90 for others.

Sainsbury's: £3.50.

Waitrose: £5.

Morrisons: £3.50 for members, £4 for non-members.

Boots: £3.60 for Advantage card holders, £3.99 for others, rising to £4.99 in London.

Co-op: £3.50 for members, £4 for non-members.

Inflation has led to increases, with Sainsbury's raising their meal deal cost from £3 to £3.50, and Tesco increasing theirs by 90p to £3.90.

Competition from Other Chains

Fast food chains have also introduced lunchtime deals to stay competitive:

KFC: A £5.49 lunch deal including a fried chicken wrap or fillet burger, crisps or a cookie, and a drink, available Monday to Friday until 3pm.

Domino's: A £4 lunch deal offering a 7in pizza or Hot & Cheesy Wrap with a side.

Greggs: Breakfast deals starting at £2.85 and lunch deals starting at £3.60.

Poundland’s new meal deal provides a budget-friendly option for lunchtime shoppers, competing with other high street and supermarket meal deals. With its attractive price and no need for a loyalty card, it’s set to appeal to a wide range of customers looking for value and convenience. Photo by Ardfern, Wikimedia commons.
