Apple reportedly planning to open first store in Oxford

Apple is rumored to be opening its first store in Oxford, England, with reports suggesting the company is eyeing a prime location in the city's Westgate Shopping Center.

If confirmed, this would bring an Apple Store to Oxford for the first time, with the nearest existing location currently 25 miles away.

According to The Oxford Clarion, Apple is considering taking over a high-profile retail space in the shopping center. The unit in question was previously occupied by clothing retailer Superdry, which vacated the space in May 2024 as part of a major restructuring plan. The location, spanning 5,000 square feet, has since been subject to a planning application that has now been approved by Oxford City Council. While Apple is not explicitly mentioned in the official documents, some details have been redacted.

The original planning application, filed on December 20, 2024, describes changes requested by an undisclosed “flagship store” tenant with a “strong brand image.” The proposed modifications include narrowing the storefront opening, replacing certain architectural elements with stonework, and ensuring a seamless visual update. These changes align with Apple’s typical approach of enhancing existing architecture while maintaining its signature store design, similar to its Apple Brompton Road location in London.

Although Apple has not officially confirmed the plans, the details suggest that Oxford could soon welcome its first Apple Store, further expanding the company’s presence across the UK. Photo by Ian S / Westgate Shopping Centre, Oxford / CC BY-SA 2.0, Wikimedia commons.
